Guess Who's Back?
Have ya missed me!
Howzit Friends - happy Friday!
It’s been a while, I know, I’ve been slack.
Probably because I’ve been busy trying to build a business, and, honestly, I’ve felt a little lost.
For a few years, my original newsletter, The Weekly Feels, was my place to dump my brain, navigating life through writing. From Covid to job hunting, parenting, and everything in between.
I loved it. I was pumping out one weekly newsletter, not worrying about building a massive audience. I wrote for myself, hoping a handful of others might benefit.
And you know what? I think I accomplished that.
I have just over 300 subscribers. Not a huge number, but my read rate was 65-70%. If you’re not in tech or marketing, that’s pretty flippin’ good. It meant more than 150+ people were engaged enough to read my emails.
Then, about 18 months ago, I started a strategy business and shifted to writing about business topics. My read rate dropped a little, but more importantly, I wasn’t enjoying it. I was already writing about business daily on LinkedIn, and frankly, I got bored.
So, I scaled back.
One newsletter per month for a while.
Then… I stopped completely.
This is where the lost boy part comes in.
I felt conflicted. Confused. I didn’t know who I wanted to write to or what I wanted to write about. I kept telling myself I had to choose a niche, a target audience, and a single focus.
That my readers needed to know what they were signing up for, or they’d bounce.
Then, a few weeks ago, I listened to a podcast where the guest completely opposed the idea of niching down.
He explained his many interests and wanted to share them all. And the more he did, the more people related because everyone found something that resonated.
And then it hit me.
It’s okay to be a generalist.
It’s okay to have changing hobbies and interests.
LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO NICHE DOWN. FKC IT!
My wide interests are what makes me, me, and what makes this newsletter different to all the others online is my experiences. No one else has my exact mix of experiences, interests, and perspectives.
And let’s be real: No one’s life is one-dimensional. The best part about life is how diverse it is and how diverse we are. I’m choosing to accept and celebrate that.
We don’t live in the extremes, crammed into tiny boxes labelled “this” or “that.” Most of life happens in the mushy, unknown middle. And that’s where this newsletter is going. I think it’s important for everyone to find balance, and you can only do that in the “middle”.
So, if you’re still with me, here’s what to expect:
Five-Minute Friday Newsletter
1 topic
What I’ve learned
My opinion (unfiltered, opinionated Saffa)
What you can take away
The topics will be varied, but you’ll leave with something useful each week.
And we’ll see where it goes from there.
Thanks for sticking around.
I’m excited for this next chapter. Looking forward to your thoughts!
Tune in next week for the first issue.
Peace, love, and growth,
Jazza
